Interdisciplinary artist working primarily in mixed media, with 20 years of experience in art education.

About

I am an artist and educator whose work focuses on connections between places and cultures, based on my own experiences during the last twenty years while living internationally. My work builds on countless photographs, a blog that sometimes documents my adventures, and experiments with writing and illustrating a book.

Several years into my expat life, I began considering ways to share my experiences through imagery. I realized that viewing travel photos isn’t particularly engaging for most people, and while living in Japan began experimenting with mixed media using locally produced and printed mulberry papers alongside elements of Japanese visual culture to develop work with rich narratives and personal connections.

After twenty years of educating student artists from all over the world, this fall I embarked on my own journey of creating by beginning my MFA at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
