Mixed Media Landscapes

In the fall of 2017 I began working on my MA in art education. My first class was in painting, and our professor instructed us to create our own objectives. I chose to focus on developing at using mixed media, as well as to explore my experiences living in my new host country of Japan. This had an immense impact on my art as well as my adventures living abroad – suddenly I saw my life not only in terms of the experiences I was having but also how I might share them with others through my work. This has also led me to consider the materials I use, and whether, why, and how they are important. I love Japanese paper in all its varieties, but have come to question if it is the best media for a collage about Mongolia. Although these images are not a cohesive body of work per se, they are the roots out of which my current practice has grown out of, and contain hints of what I may pursue in the near future.
